Structural Surveys A Structural Survey should be carried out by a Chartered Engineer who will be a member of the Institution of Civil or Structural Engineers. The survey will include a visual examination of the main load bearing elements of the structure. It will deal with matters relating to the strength, stability and structural performance of the building. An experienced Engineer will be able to recognise specific areas which have been recently repaired and redecorated. These areas may be vulnerable to movement that is related to subsidence or a similar cause. The survey will also extend to an inspection of the surrounding land and will make reference to matters such as nearby trees and drains which may have an influence on the stability of the foundations. These items, especially trees, can have a huge influence on the foundations supporting the house. Asbestos management If you own, lease or rent business premises, you are the Duty Holder. This is what the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations say. You have a personal duty to manage any asbestos that may be present on or in the premises. The regulations say that you must have a written asbestos management plan. Non-compliance with the regulations could result in a fine and imprisonment for up to 2 years. The first step in setting up an asbestos management plan is to know how much asbestos there is, where it is, the type of asbestos and most importantly of all, the risk it presents to anyone in the building or anyone visiting the building. The only way you are going to know any of this is to have an asbestos survey carried out. We can do that for you. We can also prepare your asbestos management plan.
